Looping VJ Stage visuals for Emofest

In 2024, Daylife Media brought me in to create the visuals for Emofest; a festival experience dedicated to the music, culture and nostalgia of the 2000s emo scene. The brief was to build a 15-minute looping backdrop around the Emofest identity, staying true to the existing brand while tapping into the aesthetics and nostalgia of the era.
The result was a single 15-minute visual package run through a heavily degraded VHS finish, tracking lines, tape warp and all the worn-out analogue mess that came with it. CRT televisions drift through the scenes, flicking between era slogans like IT WAS NEVER A PHASE, lyric lines from some of the genre’s biggest choruses, and clips pulled from the culture of the time. Little reminders of a time when we thought our problems were much worse than they really were.
The aim wasn’t just to recreate 2005, though. Modern motion and 3D tools let me take that visual language somewhere it couldn’t have gone at the time, while keeping everything recognisably Emofest and rooted in the scene it celebrates.
